Ground Control HQ

Behind the Business

About
Ray Woollams.

Ray Woollams

Ground Control HQ was built on one idea: operators across Australia deserve training that reflects what the job actually demands.

Ray Woollams has spent over two decades behind a grader on some of Australia’s most complex infrastructure projects. From subgrade preparation on the Sydney Metro to earthworks on WestConnex, his experience spans Tier 1 civil construction at its most demanding.

Before founding Ground Control HQ, Ray spent two years at BHP’s Mount Arthur Coal Mine in the Hunter Valley, delivering grader proficiency training to mine site operators. That role sharpened a practical approach to competency assessment — measured on the machine, in conditions that matter, not from a checklist in a classroom.

Ground Control HQ brings that standard Australia-wide. If you’re running a crew that needs to get assessed or build their competency in grader or skid steer operations, you’ve found the right place.

Training Delivery — 2 Years

Credentials

Nationally Recognised
Training

All GCHQ qualifications are nationally recognised and issued through our partnering RTO, Civil Trained (RTO ID 22585). Successful candidates receive a Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework — the same nationally recognised credential issued through any RTO.

The difference is who delivers it: a working civil grader operator with two decades on the machines, not a classroom trainer.
